Class 3 Rapids
Rapids are universally ranked by the American Whitewater organization on a scale from 1-6, based on a few aspects:
- Is the river continuous in nature or drop and pool?
- Is the water warm or freezing in temperature?
- How remote is the run and how far away is help?
- Can you walk out if need be, or is it in a steep canyon?
- Is portaging an option for all rapids, or are you committed to running everything?
The rapids on the Snake River are class 2-3 during normal water flows. During the springtime runoff (typically the first couple weeks in June), we do have waves that can get up to a class 4, making the river more challenging. If children are joining in on your tour, please check with us to make sure the timing is safe and appropriate for them.
